By popular teenage request YRock animated a Benefit Concert for YRock supporter Ben Kende that took place in August 2011 @ Hard Rock Café in LKF
Line-up featured past talent from Ben’s era as well as current talent and friends of YRock. Due to astonishing support from the teenagers and their parents the event raised over $28,000 in only a few hours,
Ben Kende’s life took a very unexpected turn two years ago when he was seriously injured while representing Hong Kong during the opening rugby game of the Asian Junior Championship in Bangkok in 2010. A seemingly harmless tackle resulted in the fracture of his cervical vertebrae.
Despite several surgeries and six months of intensive rehabilitation he is wheelchair bound with very limited use of his arms and no use of his legs. He could have given up but instead, his extraordinary resilience, great sense of humour and fighting spirit has remained intact. He is determined to take up his place at the School of Economics at Sydney University in 2012. The Benefit Concert’s goal was to raise funds to send him to the USA to undergo some special therapy.
