Highlights from YRock International Music Challenge 2013

Elouise McCrackenThis year’s YRock International Music Challenge @ Picnic in the Park powered by HK Academy for Performing Arts, saw a record amount of teen talent¬†from around Hong Kong, signing up for multiple performance opportunities, awards, prizes and exposure to a wide variety of audiences.

Some of the artists were interviewed by RTHK for Teen time in the lead up to the events as well as SCMP Young Post for a front page review of the Music Challenge by Junior Reporter Yasmin Subba who also entered and was presented with the YRock POP Award for Personality at the Finale.

Budding film makers, camera crew and editors from South Island School led by Edward Bradley covered the Heats, Finale and YRock 4 hours of stage time @ Picnic in the Park while teenage MC Carla Acepcion of DC and Stage Crew Tomoko Fukuda and Marian Lee from SIS helped to make sure everything went smoothly on and off stage.

Venues this year were generously sponsored by HKRI – DDeck with DB North Plaza hosting the Lantau Heat #3 and DB Main Plaza hosting the Finale, South Island School – Heat #2 and HKAPA – Heat #1.

The judges had a tougher time than ever before selecting artists for the Finale from such an outstanding line-up of fresh new talent. This year Future YRockers “POP Shock” all aged between 10 and 12 opened the Lantau Heat in DB North and Indie Bands 20yrs+ “From the Inside” and “Hydroscope” performed the opening and closing slots at the Finale in front of the Festival Directors from Picnic in the Park and Clockenflap. Hydroscope went on to play at both Festivals.

CLOCKENFLAP Choices : Hydroscope & Tony Eum

On-Line Summer Song Contest Winner : Phoebe Whalley
